It is not always the houses that draw Agents to their career in Real Estate. In Shawna Augherton’s case, her passion for education and guidance evolved into the perfect combination to assist those looking to make a move.

To have a career where she can both educate and guide others is what she lives for!

Shawna had earned a bachelor’s degree from ECU to be a middle grades Math and Science teacher. After five years, she then felt her internal compass was pointing her in the direction of school counseling. Shawna went back to earn a Master Degree so that she could take on a role of guidance in her education-based career.

With her compass pointing her in the direction of both education and guidance, she experienced a life changing moment when purchasing her home. Buying and selling, alike, require many decisions — to say the least! A “light-bulb” moment occurred for Shawna when she realized there was a gap in the Real Estate industry regarding agents that were truly qualified to adequately educate people. As Shawna explains,

“Guiding a buyer or seller and having the ability to load them with accurate information is essential for them to make choices that are for their own best interests.”

However, it is very difficult to do this without overwhelming a buyer or seller client! This is where Shawna found her career come to life. Although she is driven with her passions for educating and guiding others, that does not mean the pressure of the cut-throat industry of real estate does not weigh on Shawna.

Shawna feels that depending on the day, different things help her stay motivated to stay in the metaphorical bull fighting ring. When describing a few examples of what helps her maintain motivation, Shawna describes that some of the most inspiring motivators are

My family and children, clients that are depending on me, or re-reading sweet notes from previous clients.

Shawna Augherton began real estate around 2005, however she was mainly focused on her education and counseling career during this time period. She began in 2021 focusing full-time on her Real Estate career.

When we asked her what she would say to herself if she could travel back in time to the day she got her real estate license she said,

Really shop around and interview as many offices as you have interest in. Get to know what sets one office apart from another. Find the right group and hit the ground running!
